References to Moscow and Kars treaties to be removed from Nakhchivan constitution
The preamble of the Constitution of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is set to be amended to remove references to the Moscow and Kars treaties. The changes are предусмотрены in a draft constitutional law “On approving amendments to the Constitution of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic,” which was reviewed in its second reading at a session of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis.
The revised version of the preamble states that the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is an integral part of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The legal foundations of the constitution are defined as the Declaration on the Restoration of Azerbaijan’s State Independence dated August 30, 1991, the Constitutional Act of October 18, 1991, and the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted in 1995.
The draft law was approved by parliament in the second vote.
