Khamenei sends proposal to Putin on Iran’s nuclear programme
Iran is considering suspending or shutting down its nuclear programme to ease tensions, but prefers a plan supported by the United States to establish a regional nuclear energy consortium, The New York Times reported.
According to the newspaper, former Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani recently delivered a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In the message, Tehran proposed transferring enriched uranium to Russia under a model similar to the 2015 nuclear deal.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington is holding talks with Iran.
“If we can reach a deal, that would be great. If not, bad things will probably happen,” Trump said.
