The US and Azerbaijan sign a charter of strategic partnership
The United States and Azerbaijan have signed a charter of strategic partnership in Baku, opening a new chapter in economic and security cooperation as Washington pushes for a peace settlement in the South Caucasus.
The document was signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who arrived in Baku after visiting Yerevan and holding talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Aliyev said the agreement marks “an entirely new phase” in bilateral relations, including cooperation on defence sales and artificial intelligence, while continuing collaboration on energy security and counter-terrorism.
The charter was first presented during talks between Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in August. During that meeting, Aliyev and Pashinyan reached a peace agreement aimed at ending nearly three decades of conflict.
