Sister of jailed Azerbaijani journalist dies

Zemine Agayeva, sister of imprisoned Shemshad Aga, editor-in-chief of Arqument.az, has died, according to social media posts by the journalist’s relatives.

Shemshad Aga has faced several family losses in recent months, including the death of his mother last month and his niece in October 2024.

He is currently under arrest in connection with the Meydan TV case and has been charged under Article 206.3.2 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, which concerns smuggling committed by a group acting in prior collusion.
