Exhibition of works by young artists on Azim Azimzada - PHOTO

An exhibition dedicated to the 134th anniversary of legendary Azerbaijani cartoonist Azim Azimzada has been held at the Center for Contemporary Art in Baku.

Azim Azimzada was an outstanding master of art. He has a lot of followers and admirers as we saw at the exhibition of young artists.

The main topics of Azimzada’s works were social contradictions, traditions and life of people. Azimzada’s artistic satire laid the foundations of the Azerbaijani school of cartoons despite the fact he hadn’t received art education at school. 

As the saying goes, you do not become an artist, you are born one. 

Looking at the pictures put on display at the Center for Contemporary Art, I was pleasantly surprised, as I am sure were many other visitors. I must say that Azerbaijani artists have always demonstrated the ability to combine the basic elements of the world art of painting with local elements, creating an incredible synthesis. This exhibition was no exception.
