Ukraine thanks Azerbaijan for backing UN Crimea vote

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has thanked Azerbaijan for supporting a UN General Assembly resolution that condemned the March 16 referendum on Crimea’s secession from Ukraine. 

“Azerbaijani friends, thank you for your support,” the ministry said in Azeri on its website.

One hundred countries, including Azerbaijan, voted in favour of approving the resolution declaring the Crimean referendum illegal and affirming Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Eleven nations, including Armenia, Russia and Belarus, voted against, with 58 abstentions, including Kazakhstan.
