Mystery donor pays for hero dog’s vet bill

Mystery donor pays for hero dog’s vet bill

A dog that was stabbed while protecting its owner from robbers has had its bravery rewarded by an anonymous donor who stepped in to pay its vet bill.Mercey was attacked with a machete during the home invasion in Alberta, Canada, while trying to fight off four male assailants. The four-year-old suffered two serious knife wounds that were said to be life threatening.Police and vet workers managed to raise half of the $2,000 (£1,190) required to pay for her treatment, but the dog’s future was uncertain with her owner struggling to raise the rest of the money. That’s when a mystery donor who was impressed with Mercey’s courage stepped in to pay the balance.‘He just said, “I want to donate this anonymously to Mercey’s care.” And that really was enough to cover the rest of the bill,’ the dog’s vet Brent Jackson told the Edmonton Sun.He added: ‘It’s phenomenal. We’ve had some phone calls from people wanting to donate money and we’ve said, “We’re fine now, it’s been paid for’.”Mercey is recovering well from the attack, with four people now facing charges of breaking and entering and animal cruelty over the incident.(metro.co.uk)ANN.Az
