On March 1 the Russian President Vladimir Putin cut his salary by 10%. The salary  of the  Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was also cut, according to Gazeta.ru, referring to the Kremlin.

"To pay from 1 March to 31 December 2015 to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation (...) cash award, a monthly cash promoting and encouraging quarterly cash to a decrease of 10%," the document says.

This gesture by Putin can be considered as a PR move in the face of growing impoverishment of the population of Russia, which entered a period of long-term economic crisis.  The PR  of the President  is evidenced by the fact that just recently, on  May 1, 2014 in terms of relative prosperity, Putin raised  his and the premiere’s salary by 2.65 times and brought it to $ 5,600. Now, the Russian leader will receive  by $600 less,  $ 5040.
