Iran can join the Trans-Anatolian pipeline (Tanap) in the future to export natural gas to Europe, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Natiq Aliyev said.

Speaking at an energy conference in Baku, Aliyev said other countries in the region, such as Iraq, Cyrus and Israel, may also be able to use the pipeline to export gas.

Tanap is being developed by a group led by Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR.

The 1,850-kilometer pipeline will ship 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe and an additional 6 billion cubic meters to Turkey from 2018.

The pipeline is estimated to cost over $11 billion. SOCAR’s partners in the project include Turkey’s BOTAS and UK energy giant BP.
