The relations between Russia and the United States are on the verge of an open armed confrontation but Moscow is working to prevent it, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said.

"We are working to prevent the relations with the United States from plunging into the abyss of an open armed confrontation, we are already at the edge of this abyss," he said.

Ryabkov added that Russia is ready to use all the means to prevent anyone to infringe on the security of the country and its leadership.
