Brave Alexander Prokhorenko ordered an airstrike on himself when ISIS surrounded him near the ancient city of Palmyra.

He was directing airstrikes against Islamic State and knew they could get vital information if he was taken alive.

Now it has emerged he was about to become a first-time dad when he decided to take dozens of ISIS thugs down with him.

The 25-year-old was married to his wife Ekaterina 18 months ago and said he felt like "the happiest man on earth" in a wedding tape.

In the video, seen by Russian newspaper Orenday, he also claimed his dreams of a wonderful wife and a military career were coming true.

"He dreamed of being in the military and it began," the paper reported. "He dreamed that he had the best wife in the world, and she appeared."

But his missus apparently had no idea where he was serving and assumed he was in the Caucasus region of southern Russia.

Yury Berg, governor of Russia's Orenburg region, paid tribute to Alexander in a post on his blog.

He wrote: "I express my condolences to the family and the mother of the deceased hero - our fellow countryman Alexander Prokhorenko.

"He accomplished the feat in distant Syria , protecting the interests of the Russian state, to protect humanity from the terrible plague - global terrorism."

Pledging to visit the family, he said: "It is our duty to take care of relatives and friends of those who chose the difficult path of defending the fatherland."

The governor also compared Alexander to his countrymen who fell fighting the Nazis in WW2 – known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia.

Islamic State – also known as Daesh – is facing attacks on its self-proclaimed Caliphate on several fronts in Iraq and Syria.

As a warning to its rivals, ISIS beheaded three Kurdish fighters in a new video from an occupied city.
