Sergio Ramos is the perfect captain for Real Madrid...

Sergio Ramos is the perfect man to replace Iker Casillas as Real Madrid captain, insists team-mate Dani Carvajal.

The 29-year-old's future in Madrid was looking far from certain earlier this summer, after Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal identifying the defender as one of his primary transfer targets.

However, after long-serving goalkeeper Casillas left to join Porto earlier this month after a 16-year spell, defender Ramos is now widely expected to take over the captaincy.

And Carvajal has no doubts in his mind that Ramos would be a success in that role telling AS: 'Our captain is Sergio and I'm sure he will do well.

'He's won a lot of things in the game and has had many years at the club to try out that role. I'm sure he'll do well in the position.'

'I only know that today he is a Madrid player and he is focused on us and on our team in the coming games. I do not see him in another shirt other than ours.'
