The parents of Rasim Aliyev, a reporter with Azerbaijan News Network (ANN) who was beaten to death in Baku in August, have appealed to President Ilham Aliyev, complaining about what they described as the "slow pace” of the investigation into the murder.
Although the Prosecutor-General’s Office started the investigation more than two months ago, the family has yet to be briefed on the results of it, said Teyfura Aliyeva, the journalist’s mother.
Neither the family, nor the investigators have received the results of forensic tests, Aliyeva said.
The parents also accused doctors at the Republican Clinical Hospital of not doing enough to save the journalist’s life.
Eldar Sultanov, a spokesman for the Prosecutor-General’s Office, said the investigators received the results of all forensic tests on Oct. 20.
"At the moment, the defendants are being familiarized with the results of forensic tests,” Sultanov told ANN by telephone. "The investigation will be completed soon.”
Police in August arrested several people, including Cavid Huseynov, a leading soccer player from Qabala FK, on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
Speaking in hospital hours before his death, the journalist said he was attacked by supporters of Huseynov in retaliation for criticism of the footballer in a Facebook post.
