Asabali Mustafayev, the lawyer who defends the interests of slain journalist Rasim Aliyev’s family, has complained about the lack of information about the investigation into the murder.
"Every time I ask the group investigating the murder for new information about the pace of the probe, I get the same answer: They say the investigation is continuing,” Mustafayev told Azerbaijan News Network (ANN).
The lawyer said two weeks ago he appealed to the investigators on behalf of the journalist’s family but got no response.
Teyfura Aliyeva, the journalist’s mother, also complained about the lack of information.
"We would like to follow the investigation. Understandably, some information about the investigation needs to be kept secret and cannot be revealed to public. We want to get at least general information,” she said.
Aliyev, 31, who worked for ANN, was beaten to death in Baku in August for a Facebook post criticizing footballer Cavid Huseynov, then the captain of FK Qabala.
Police arrested several people, including Huseynov and his cousin, on charges of involvement in the incident.
President Ilham Aliyev has taken personal control of the investigation.
