Stoltenberg welcomes Türkiye’s decision on Finland’s accession to NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberghas welcomed the decision of the Turkish parliament to approve Finland’s application to join the alliance.

"I welcome the vote of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye to complete the ratification of Finland’s accession. This will make the whole NATO family stronger and safer,” he tweeted.

Earlier it was reported that the Turkish parliament approved Finland’s application to join NATO.

Thus, all the states of the North Atlantic Alliance have ratified the application of Helsinki. After the completion of the remaining formalities, Finland will officially become a member of NATO.

According to the procedure for joining NATO, the member countries will now sign the protocols to the North Atlantic Treaty on Finland’s accession to the alliance and notify the US, the depositary of the treaty, about this. Then NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will offer Finland to join the North Atlantic Treaty. After the transfer of documents on the country’s accession to NATO to the US State Department, Finland will formally become a member of the alliance.
