As Sherlock and John Watson faced shady villain Charles Magnussen at the stunning complex, which featured a penthouse suite, squash court and a garage big enough to house eight cars.Looking like something from the future, Appledore is actually a real-life mansion called Swinhay House that was designed for Gloucestershire architects Roberts Limbrick for businessman Sir David McMurtry - the boss of high-tech precision engineering firm Renishaw.He allowed Sherlock producers to use the palatial pad in the south Cotswolds at North Nibley, near Dursley, Gloucestershire to film the climax of the series.A profile of the eco-friendly property on Roberts Limbrick's website says: "Swinhay House has 10 different floor levels throughout with the Viewing Tower level set some 14.5m above the lower ground floor level."The house includes eight bedrooms contained in three separate wings, an eight bay underground garage, two lane bowling alley, 25m swimming pool and squash court, fully enclosed and glazed 'Winter Garden', 'Panorama Room' and Viewing Tower."A water canal even flows around one of the bedroom wings that cascades into a lagoon.Work began on the property in 2001 for Sir David, who is said to be worth around £225 millon.Last night's Sherlock was the third and final part of the third series which saw the return of Moriarty.The series is set for another break but is rumoured to be returning within a year.(dailystar.co.uk)ANN.Az
