Police later said that they were made aware of the incident after workers from the fast food chain dialled 911 - but no one else watching attempted to contact authorities.

The video was uploaded by Janae Aiko, who criticised people for not breaking up the fight. It shows between four and six teenage girls attacking the 15-year-old, continually throwing a barrage of punches to the girl's back and face as she is swung around the room. The McDonald's is packed with people watching the after-school fight, with many cheering and filming the scene on their phones.

The victim can be seen clinging onto her main attacker as several others charge in and deliver blows to the girl. She rips off the hoodie of the attacker at one point, before being thrown to the floor where she is repeatedly kicked in the face.

One person can be heard yelling, "Yo, she’s dead. It’s a murder!" as the girl lies underneath a table after the assault.

Eventually a few students help the girl onto a bench to try and help her.

The horrific incident occurred at the Flatbush Avenue branch of the fast food restaurant. According to a police source who spoke to the New York Daily News, the teens set up the meeting at the McDonald's to fight over "someone telling lies" about the girl who was attacked.

A police source told the Daily News. "It looks like they went there to straighten out their differences and she wound up getting the worst of it."

The Daily News reported that the girl was in hospital on Monday following the fight and had suffered two black eyes and multiple bruising. She collapsed again at her home on Wednesday and was rushed to SUNY Downstate Medical Centre. The girl is reportedly a student at Erasmus Hall High School near Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

Her grandmother told the Daily News: "She can’t sleep because she got kicked to the body. She fell again and they had to take her to the hospital."

Police and community leaders are calling for people to come forward to ensure those responsible are punished. The victim of the attack has reportedly refused to talk to police because she is afraid of retaliation. Police state that some of the girls who attacked the school kid allegedly have links to a violent crew that operates in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn.

Local activist Tony Herbert spoke outside the McDonald's on Wednesday and said, "We are asking that young lady to not be afraid. Come forward. We will stand with her.

"We have names. We have pictures. We have video of all these individuals. So save the taxpayers money and bring yourself forward."
