It is expected to cost an estimated $4.5million when it is privately sold at Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom in Scottsdale.

Driven by actor Adam West, the iconic Batmobile was used in the 1966 TV series and remains one of the most popular cars in the world. 

With its unusual bubble window and armament of rockets and gadgets, including an automatic tyre re-inflating system, the batmobile embodied the image of the superhero. 

The iconic 1966 car was built in just three weeks by top car customiser George Barris and was based on an unsold concept car called the Lincoln Futura.

Handmade in Italy for $250,000, the Lincoln Futura was designed by Ford Motor company but was never put into production. 

Barris's design of the batmobile focused on attaching additional bat inspired wings and a new front nose to the vehicle.

Such was its success that producers returned to him, asking him to create mould from the original in order to produce three fiberglass copies for filming.

The Batmobile first appeared on our television screens for its debut on 12 January 1966.

It was well known for its rich variety of exciting gadgets, including rockets, oil slicks and a special Batphone.

The famous Bat-Eye switch and Anti-Theft device were also highlights of the car's excitingly futuristic design. 

It was previously sold for $4.5million at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in 2013.
