Wayne Rooney to China? Man Utd ace to 'become face of Asian football'

Chinese Super League (CSL) clubs are said to be chasing Rooney, 30, after a major cash injection into the Asian game.

The superstar has netted just twice in his Premier League appearances this season.

Now CSL bosses are willing to offer him millions to join his former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson in China.

Last month the rights to broadcast the league between 2016 and 2020 were sold for a whopping £830million.

The Chinese Football Association's vice-chairman Zhang Jian hailed the "historic day".

He added: "Our focus for next five years is how to improve the broadcasting quality of CSL.

"Starting from next season, all of the 240 matches will be produced in line with a new standard.

"We will work harder to catch up the top leagues in the world."

The TV rights for the 2015 season were sold for just £8million last year – despite a host of foreign stars being snapped up.

Former Manchester City star Robinho, 31, and Spurs midfielder Paulinho, 27, both moved to Guangzhou Evergrande.

Other stars playing in China include former Everton favourite Tim Cahill, 35, and ex-Chelsea striker Demba Ba, 30.
