Azerbaijan recognized women's right to vote in 1918, and the United States did it in 1920, USAID Mission Director in Azerbaijan Jaidev Singh told the 4th SHE Congress - International Women's Congress in Baku.
Singh stressed that currently, women in some countries face particular challenges, including the salary for the same job.
He believes that investing in women means investing in the economy.
Singh noted that before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a women's gym was opened in Masalli.
The gym created a competitive environment, and soon several more gyms were opened for women, he said, adding that this had a positive impact on economic development.
Singh noted that Azerbaijan liberated its lands from occupation, and work is underway to restore those areas.
He stressed the need to increase the role of women in this process.
