09.05.2023 15:00
Presidential elections in Türkiye will end in the first round with the victory of the incumbent head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with over 90% of eligible population to cast their votes, the Hürriyet newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing the data of the latest polls which were not published due to the CEC ban.

"While the presidential elections are entering the final stage, an interesting development is taking place in the voting for Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu. Poll results are not published due to the ban ... But polls are being conducted. In the latest unpublished polls, the following comes to the fore: with a record number of voters participating, the elections will end in the first round, Erdogan will win the elections in the first round, Kilicdaroglu continues to gain votes,” the newspaper writes, without specifying who conducted the polls and what the exact levels of support for the candidates are.

Referring to polls, the publication reports that the turnout in elections in Türkiye does not fall below 85%, noting that this is significantly higher than in Western countries.

"The voter turnout is expected to exceed 90% in this election," the paper said.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Türkiye are scheduled for May 14. The main opponent of Erdogan - the single candidate from the Republican Alliance - is the single candidate from the opposition People's Alliance Kemal Kilicdaroglu. Also running in the elections are Memleket party leader Muharrem Ince and Ata alliance candidate Sinan Ogan. If no candidate wins 50% of the votes, the second round of the presidential elections should take place on May 28.
