Iran detains two tankers with 4.5 million liters of smuggled oil

The naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) detained two oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, carrying about 4.5 million liters of smuggled fuel, Tasnim News Agency said, reported from TASS.

According to Tasnim, the vessels were detained off the coast of Abu Musa Island. One of the tankers was carrying 2.28 million liters of smuggled fuel; there were 13 crew members on board, and all of them were foreign citizens. The second tanker was carrying 2.3 million liters of illegally exported oil and had 21 crew members on board (also citizens of other states). All smugglers have been taken into custody.

The agency did not provide information about the citizenship of the detainees.
