European gas prices drop sharply ahead of Trump–Putin summit

European natural gas prices have fallen to their lowest level in 2025 ahead of a high-stakes summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
According to Report, citing RBK-Ukraine and Bloomberg, Amsterdam-traded gas futures have declined by about 10% since early August, reaching their lowest levels since May.
While only a few traders see the return of Russian pipeline gas to Europe as likely — even if a ceasefire is reached in Ukraine — potential easing or tightening of sanctions on Russian energy could significantly impact global supply.
Currently, most of Europe's gas imports come from distant suppliers such as the United States and Qatar.
