U.S. retailers are scaling back or canceling Black Friday sales due to higher import costs following tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reports.

“It’s simply not profitable to offer discounts anymore because tariffs have pushed our production costs too high,” said Upstream Brands CEO Dan Pescors.

Experts say while many companies survived the first wave of tariffs, they can no longer sustain the same level of price cuts. AlixPartners retail specialist Sonya Lapinski noted that current tariffs have significantly limited the scope of seasonal sales.
