Trump’s mass deportation drive worries Republicans ahead of midterms — Politico
U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign of mass deportations is raising concerns among Republican lawmakers and strategists, who fear it could cost the party control of the House of Representatives ahead of midterm elections, Politico reported.
A Politico poll found that 49% of Americans view the campaign as overly harsh, including about one in five Trump supporters. More than a third of his voters back the goals of deportations but oppose the way they are being carried out.
The survey also showed that most Americans favour a more targeted approach, with 38% saying priority should be given to deporting immigrants convicted of serious crimes, and another 21% supporting the removal only of those deemed the most dangerous.
