Mediators prepare U.S.–Iran dialogue in Ankara
Turkey, Egypt and Qatar are working to organise a meeting in Ankara in the coming days between U.S. President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and Iranian representatives, Axios reported.
According to an official from one of the countries involved, the process is moving forward. “Things are progressing. We are doing everything we can,” the source said. The meeting could take place within a week.
Axios said Turkey, Egypt and Qatar hope the talks between the United States and Iran could ease tensions and avert a potential regional war.
A U.S. official confirmed the likelihood of a meeting in Turkey in the near future, while another U.S. source said the administration of President Donald Trump has conveyed to Iran through various channels its readiness to hold talks aimed at reaching a deal.
