Update from Maduro
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro spoke by phone with his son, Nicolas Maduro Guerra, according to Caraota Digital.
Maduro said the government is taking the “necessary steps” in the current situation.
Quoting his father, Maduro Guerra said the president stressed the importance of unity among the people and the high command, adding that he has full confidence in his team.
Reports earlier said that on January 3, U.S. military forces conducted an operation in Caracas during which Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were detained. In a New York court, they were charged with “narco-terrorism,” illegal arms trafficking and money laundering.
Maduro and Flores have rejected all charges and declared their innocence.
