17.04.2026 14:00

China has become the world’s leader in total installed nuclear power capacity, which has reached 125 million kW, according to a report by the China Nuclear Energy Association.

The report said 60 nuclear power units are currently in commercial operation in the country, while another 36 are under construction. It added that those projects account for more than half of all nuclear reactors currently being built worldwide.

A further 16 units have already received state approval and are awaiting the start of construction.

China started building two new units in 2026 and plans to bring seven units into operation by the end of the year.
