U.S. Navy Secretary John Phelan leaves post
23.04.2026 10:30

U.S. Navy Secretary John Phelan left his post effective immediately, the Pentagon said, with Under Secretary Hung Cao set to serve as acting Navy secretary.

The Pentagon did not give a reason for Phelan’s departure. In a brief statement, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell thanked him for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Phelan’s exit marks the latest senior-level shake-up at the Pentagon under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Reuters reported, citing a source, that Phelan was fired.
