Trump says he is unsure whether Washington dinner gunman targeted him
U.S. President Donald Trump said he was not sure whether he was the direct target of a man who opened fire during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington.
“It is hard for me to say for sure. I had that impression,” Trump said in an interview with CBS News when asked about the suspect’s motives.
Trump also praised the Secret Service, saying the suspect had been detained fairly quickly.
Reuters reported earlier that U.S. law enforcement officials were reassessing security arrangements after the shooting near the dinner, which was attended by Trump, cabinet members and lawmakers.
The Washington Post reported that the event did not receive the highest level of federal security despite the presence of Trump, Vice President JD Vance and several senior officials.
