Trump says he could consider 20-year freeze on Iran’s nuclear programme
15.05.2026 17:00

U.S. President Donald Trump said he was ready to consider an agreement with Iran that would freeze its nuclear programme for 20 years.

“Twenty years is enough. But they must be real 20 years,” Trump said, referring to guarantees from Tehran.

Trump said Iran had claimed that only the United States and China had the technology to remove enriched uranium from damaged nuclear sites.

He also said he had discussed with Chinese President Xi Jinping the possible lifting of sanctions on Chinese companies buying Iranian oil, adding that a decision could be made in the coming days.

Commenting on the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said he had not asked Beijing to pressure Iran.

“I am not asking for any favours,” he said.
