Vance says Iran deal is close
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Washington is close to reaching an agreement with Iran over its nuclear programme.
In an interview with CBS, Vance said a deal could be reached within a week or take several months, but added that an agreement would “absolutely” be concluded before the U.S. midterm elections.
Vance said the Trump administration was seeking a long-term deal that would serve U.S. economic interests and prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
He also said Washington was not relying on trust in Tehran, but on its own negotiating tools and enforcement mechanisms.
