EU to impose fee on low-value parcels
The European Union will introduce a temporary customs fee on low-value commercial parcels from non-EU countries from July 1.
The measure will apply to shipments worth up to 150 euros and is expected to mainly affect goods sent from China.
Under the new rules, a 3-euro fee will be charged for each category of goods inside a parcel. If one shipment contains several categories of products, the fee will be applied separately to each of them.
The European Commission says the measure is aimed at protecting European producers from unfair competition and reducing the risk of unsafe products entering the market.
The temporary fee will remain in force until July 1, 2028.
