Instagram refreshes its text logo for the first time in a decade
Meta-owned social platform Instagram has unveiled a refreshed text logo (wordmark) at the top of its app, marking the first update to its typeface in ten years, according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
Mosseri noted that the previous lettering had remained unchanged for a decade and felt dated, prompting the decision to modernize the typography.
"We updated the Instagram wordmark today, which is more than a decade old and felt dated. We feel the refresh is sharper and more modern, but references the original and has the simplicity and craft that's always made it Instagram," Mosseri shared on Threads.
The redesign applies strictly to the written name typography, leaving the familiar gradient camera app icon untouched.
Instagram last underwent a major visual overhaul in 2016, when it retired its original brown Polaroid camera icon in favor of the colorful gradient symbol in use today.
