EU prepares largest Russia sanctions expansion since 2022
The European Union plans to significantly expand its sanctions regime against Russia this autumn, preparing what is set to become the most extensive package of restrictions since 2022, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas told German daily Die Welt.
According to the EU's top diplomat, the upcoming measures would expand existing blacklists substantially. "If adopted, the number of designated Russian individuals, companies, and entities will increase by a third in a single stroke," Kallas stated.
While declining to disclose the specific sectoral details of the incoming restrictions, Kallas called for member states to "better coordinate EU instruments in Europe's strategic interest."
