Armenia Denied Expected CSTO Assistance, FM Says

Armenia appealed to its allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in 2022 but did not receive the required support, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated in an interview with Public Television. 

Rebutting comments by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, Mirzoyan remarked: "The statement made by this woman does not correspond to reality. The reality was diametrically opposite, including regarding the CSTO. We appealed to Russia under bilateral treaties and twice to the CSTO under Article 4 requesting assistance. We were not asking for direct combat involvement on our behalf, yet we did not receive the support we counted on."

The foreign minister added that he no longer tracks Zakharova's statements and requested not to be asked for further comment on her remarks.
