Italy PM Meloni to skip UN General Assembly session

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will not attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Italian delegation will instead be headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, Italian media reported, noting that he will represent Rome unless last-minute scheduling changes arise.

Meloni's decision is tied to urgent domestic commitments, including the formulation of the national budget and preparations for upcoming elections next year. The general debate of the 81st UNGA session runs from September 22 to 26 and concludes on September 28.
