European Commission proposes unfreezing €4.2 billion in cohesion funds for Hungary

The European Commission has proposed unfreezing €4.2 billion in cohesion funds for Hungary.

According to Reuters, the funds are part of the €16.4 billion frozen under the EU’s recovery and cohesion funding mechanisms.

The European Commission also intends to restore the participation of Hungarian students and researchers in the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes.

The proposal must now be formally approved by all EU member states in the Council of the European Union.
