Netanyahu-Led Bloc Gains Ground as Vote Count Advances
The political bloc led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expanding its seat projection as ballot counting continues following Israel's parliamentary elections. Preliminary figures released by the Central Elections Committee with 32.5% of ballot boxes processed show the pro-Netanyahu faction positioned to secure 59 of the 120 seats in the Knesset, compared to 46 mandates for the opposition.
The current ballot tally reflects a shift from initial exit polls published by public broadcaster Kan-11, which projected 25 seats for Netanyahu's Likud and 21 for Gadi Eisenkot's rival Yashar party, pointing to an overall edge for the opposition (53 to 50 seats). While the real-time figures bring Netanyahu near the threshold required for a governing majority, the prime minister has celebrated initial trends with supporters without formally declaring victory. Three minor factions currently fall short of the 3.25% electoral threshold. The final balance of power hinges on the tabulation of double-envelope ballots, including votes cast by active military personnel, with a minimum of 61 seats necessary to form a government.
