Keeping its promise to provide night shelters for homeless people, the Delhi government is now using abandoned buses as a refuge.

This step will provide relief to thousands of homeless people living on the streets in the cold. Urban Development Minister Manish Sisodia recently announced that 100 new night shelters will be built in the coming few days.Currently, at least five Blueline buses have been converted into shelters and are being used by homeless people outside AIIMS hospital. "The bus owners approached us as they have old Blueline buses which are not being used. They have removed the seats and these buses now work as cabins. We are providing the homeless with blankets and some functional costs," an AAP worker said. "All abandoned buses are being modified into night shelters. They will be provided with blankets and other basic amenities so that the homeless can at the least sleep properly," a post on the AAP's Facebook page said. Sisodia had asked the NGOs to come with ideas to help and was approached by few people with this idea. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had directed sub-divisional magistrates to identify the number of homeless people and ensure that they were provided with shelters at night. Sisodia had also said a survey found that there were 4,018 people sleeping in the open at 212 locations across the city.(dailymail.co.uk)ANN.Az
