Azerbaijan, Russia to hold joint drills in Caspian

Russia plans to hold joint drills with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in the Caspian Sea next year, RIA Novosti reported, citing the press service of Russia's Southern Military District.

The exercises will involve Russia's Buyan-class corvettes. Warships from the Russian flotilla in the Caspian Sea plan separate drills with Azerbaijan and trilateral exercises with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, RIA said.

The drills will mark the first international exercises for Russia’s Buyan corvettes, which carry missiles and artillery weapons.

Holding joint naval drills by Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan was agreed upon in a Caspian summit in Astrakhan on November 9.
