Azerbaijan showcases climate action at OSCE high-level conference

Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev participated in the OSCE Maltese Chairmanship's High-Level Conference on Climate Change held in Malta on June 21. The conference focused on the impact of climate change on security in the OSCE region, the current situation, and opportunities for joint action against climate change.

According to the information , speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev stated that Azerbaijan has also been affected by climate change and shared the country's efforts to combat this challenge. He noted that Azerbaijan supports the decision adopted in Stockholm in 2021 by the OSCE Ministerial Council to strengthen cooperation in addressing climate change-related challenges. Azerbaijan actively participates in several OSCE regional projects.

Rzayev emphasized that the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from years of military occupation will be transformed into "green" energy zones, where "smart village" and "smart city" concepts will be applied. This transformation will contribute to efforts to combat climate change.

Highlighting that 2024 has been declared the Green World Solidarity Year in Azerbaijan, the deputy minister announced that the country will host COP29 in November. He shared Azerbaijan's vision in the context of COP29, noting that the event will contribute to international efforts to combat climate change.

On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev also met with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid and Christopher Cutajar, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
