Baku 2015: Golden night for Great Britain's divers

Great Britain won the final two Diving gold medals on offer at the Baku 2015 European Games, taking their total to four as the competition came to an end on Sunday night.

Matthew Lee claimed the men's platform title after Katherine Torrance had grabbed the women's 3m springboard gold at the Baku Aquatics Centre (see video below), leaving the Brits on top of the Diving medals table.

Lee, 17, held his nerve to edge out Russia's Nikita Shleikher, the 1m springboard champion, in a fitting climax to the competition.

"It's the most consistent I have ever dived before in my life," said Lee. "I knew the pressure was on between me and Shleikher. I don't know I coped with it, but I did."

Julian Bellan, Great Britain team leader, said: "Without wanting to give anything away to our rivals, it is about making our athletes mentally tough."

Lee finished on 588.25 points, with Shleikher on 556.55 and France's Alexis Jandard taking bronze with 526.20.

Sixteen-year-old Torrance had waltzed off with gold earlier after a sustained challenge from silver medallist Russian Ekaterina Nekrasova, with Germany's Saskia Oettinghaus claiming bronze.

"I just like to put on my headphones and dance around before and during the competition, because when you are dancing, you are not worrying and you are having fun," Torrance said." I like to prance around at pool side and try to stay out of sight."

Torrance totalled 448.25 points to Nekrasova's 443.05 while Oettinghaus scored 418.35.
