The PS4 may be too popular for its own good

It’s hard to imagine Sony would have much to complain about given that the PlayStation 4 is continually toppling its competition from Nintendo and Microsoft month after month, but stock shortages, which were heavily reported around the console’s launch, have apparently endured throughout 2014. Speaking with TrustedReviews, Sony admitted that the PS4 is just now beginning to close in on a full production run.

“We haven’t yet caught up with the initial demand across Europe,” said Fergal Gara, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment U.K. “We are very close to being in a full supply situation, but we are not quite there yet.”Gara didn’t have any specific numbers to share, but he did say that the company “may have lost some sales” due to the stock situation. While the U.K. supply has been fairly consistent, Gara claims that “there are countries that are still selling out every last unit that drops into the market on a weekly basis,” including Germany, where sales have been high, but Sony just can’t keep the shelves stocked as consistently as it would like.Gara believes that the holiday season will be a time when Sony can make up for any lost purchases as production ramps up throughout the year.“We have spent a lot of time at E3 talking about the plan for Christmas and I think we’ve got enough exciting content to be able to rekindle that interest. Anyone who may have said ‘forget about it, I will leave it for a while’, I think we have enough of a story now to say to them that they should reassess.”(Bgr.com)ANN.Az
