Azerbaijan marks 65th anniversary of journalist Chingiz Mustafayev

Azerbaijan on Friday marked what would have been the 65th birthday of Chingiz Mustafayev, a journalist and National Hero renowned for his frontline coverage of the Nagorno-Karabakh war, including footage of the Khojaly massacre.
Born in 1960 in Russia’s Astrakhan region, Mustafayev moved to Baku with his family in 1964. Trained as a doctor, he later turned to journalism, founding a television studio and becoming one of the country’s most prominent war reporters.
He was killed on June 15, 1992, while filming fighting near Aghdam. Mustafayev was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan and is buried at Baku’s Alley of Martyrs.
