During the first nine months of 2025, Yeni Klinika conducted 847,644 heel prick screening tests, the hospital reported. A total of 169,529 newborns were examined, of which 114 tested positive.

Parents of the affected infants were invited to relevant medical institutions for follow-up, where they were informed about the required specialists and given medical guidance.

Heel prick tests are performed in maternity wards of TABIB-affiliated medical institutions, and samples are sent to Yeni Klinika’s specialized laboratory. Using “Guthrie cards,” blood samples are analyzed for phenylketonuria, galactosemia, cystic fibrosis, adrenogenital syndrome, and hypothyroidism.

The test is part of Azerbaijan’s Mandatory Health Insurance Service Package and is provided free of charge in public healthcare facilities.
