Azerbaijan Clears Over 5,000 Mines and UXO in March 2026
In March 2026, Azerbaijani demining teams cleared 267 anti-tank mines, 236 anti-personnel mines, and 4,922 unexploded ordnance (UXO) in liberated territories, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) reported.
According to the agency, 5,336.5 hectares of land were fully cleared of mines.
In 2026, ANAMA plans to clear over 65,000 hectares of territory in the Karabakh region. For comparison, 69,200 hectares were cleared in 2025.
Since 2020, approximately 249,000 hectares of liberated land have been cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.
The total number of mine victims in Azerbaijan exceeds 3,400, including 359 children and 38 women. Following the Second Karabakh War alone, 382 people became mine victims, of whom 55 died. Among the victims, 143 were civilians.
