Gasoline prices in Germany reach four-year high

Gasoline prices in Germany reach four-year high
01.04.2026 15:00

In Germany, gasoline prices have risen to their highest level since the spring of 2022, reaching €2.13 per liter, citing data from the European Commission.

According to data, this figure is 13% higher than the European average of €1.89 per liter.

Due to the price increase, Germany is now among the countries with the most expensive gasoline. This list also includes Denmark (€2.25 per liter), the Netherlands (€2.35 per liter), and Finland (€2.11 per liter).

In most European countries, gasoline prices have been rising amid growing tensions in the Middle East, particularly due to Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran. As a result, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials were killed. Following this, Iran began striking targets not only in Israel but also in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus.

Iran's leadership also decided to close the Strait of Hormuz to ships linked to the US, Israel, and states supporting the operation. During the conflict, several tankers attempting to pass through the strait without Tehran's permission were attacked.
