UAE preparing to help US open Strait of Hormuz by force

UAE preparing to help US open Strait of Hormuz by force

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is preparing to help the US and other allies open the Strait of Hormuz by force, Arab officials said, a move that would make it the first Persian Gulf country to become a combatant, after being hit by Iranian attacks.

The UAE is lobbying for a United Nations Security Council resolution that would authorize such action, the officials said. Emirati diplomats have urged the US and military powers in Europe and Asia to form a coalition to open the strait by force, the officials said.

A UAE official said the Iranian regime thinks it is fighting for its existence and is willing to bring the global economy down with it in a chokehold on the strait.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran. As a result, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials were killed. Following this, Iran began striking targets not only in Israel but also in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus.

Iran's leadership also decided to close the Strait of Hormuz to ships linked to the US, Israel, and states supporting the operation. During the conflict, several tankers attempting to pass through the strait without Tehran's permission were attacked.
