Azerbaijan posts $487.7 mln trade surplus in January 2026
In January 2026, Azerbaijani companies and individuals conducted foreign trade with 128 countries, exporting to 81 countries and importing from 122 countries, the State Statistics Committee reported.
Including crude oil and natural gas not yet cleared through customs, the country’s foreign trade turnover reached $3.0921 billion, with exports of $1.7899 billion and imports of $1.3022 billion, resulting in a positive trade balance of $487.7 million.
Compared with January 2025, total foreign trade fell 25.1% in nominal terms and 29.1% in real terms. Imports declined 52.1%, while exports decreased 6.4%.
Countries accounting for 91% of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade included Italy, Turkey, China, Russia, Romania, Germany, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Greece, Switzerland, Portugal, Czechia, Croatia, the US, Belarus, Ukraine, Syria, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, and Uzbekistan.
The import share by country was: China 31.3%, Russia 12.7%, Turkey 12.6%, Iran 4.3%, Germany 3.5%, Italy 3.3%, Belarus 2.5%, US 2.4%, Kazakhstan 1.7%, Ukraine 1.6%, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Japan, India, France 1.5% each, UK 1.3%, Vietnam 1.0%, Brazil 0.9%, Poland, Switzerland, UAE 0.8% each, with other countries making up 11%.
